A Unique Place in West Bohemia

Hradišťský Vrch is located near Konstantinovy Lázně in West Bohemia. It is a former basalt quarry with distinctive stone blocks, which has transformed into a unique natural swimming spot. The crystal-clear water of the flooded quarry creates one of the most beautiful natural bathing areas in the region.

Nature Reserve

The area of Hradišťský Vrch was declared a nature reserve in 1990. A nature trail has been running here since 1998.

History

Hallstatt era

A Hallstatt hillfort existed on the summit — evidence of Iron Age settlement.

Industrial era

A significant basalt quarry was established. Stone from the quarry was used for construction throughout the region.

After 1909

A period of rapid development in quarrying began.

1990

The area was declared a nature reserve, recognising its unique geological and natural value.

1997

Quarrying ended and the pit was flooded, creating the crystal-clear lake we see today.

1998

A nature trail was opened, guiding visitors through the history and nature of Hradišťský Vrch.

Today

Today Hradišťský Vrch is a peaceful natural retreat. The lake reaches depths of up to 13 metres, the water is crystal-clear and the local nature creates a unique atmosphere. In addition to swimming, the lake is home to pike, carp, perch, roach, grass carp and even an approximately 2.5 m long wels catfish.
